About Us

Meet The Founder

My name is Alfie Laurence and I’m the Founder and Director of Student Travel Tips. In February 2019 I moved to São Paulo, Brazil as part of my year abroad placement from the University of Bristol. Naturally, I needed to find accommodation, I needed a job, an ID card and all the other important bits to get me started in a new country. However, I really struggled to find this information online and had no friends out there.

I talked online with other students on their year abroad and it seemed like everyone had the same problem. That’s when I realised that what we really needed was a one-stop shop in the form of a website, and I got the impression from other students that that’s what everyone wanted… So I started building it!

Over the past 2 years, we’ve built a great community of student travellers, sharing their experiences – good and bad – to help students in years to come make informed decisions about their adventures abroad. Student Travel Tips has a team of people ready to answer your questions and connect with people around the world. I really wouldn’t be able to do this without the help of the STTeam updating, verifying and collecting up-to-date tips and resources.

Year Abroad Connect

This is a space to voice your concerns about your year abroad and connect with others on the same journey. We're here to answer your questions and have a vast network of students who have done it themselves to help you. We want to encourage conversation in this group so let us know where you're on your year abroad.
