If you love being outdoors then Söne is a must! Spend your Summer soaking up the sun and swimming in Lake Vänern which is the biggest lake in Sweden! Near Söne there is a town called Lidköping which is also beautiful.
Definitely visit Lake Vänern! There are so many beautiful parts of the lake and it’s surrounded by forests. You can take a bike ride or walk to the lake and you’ll end up riding through the forests and it really is amazing to come out the other side to a lake!
Near Söne there is a town called Lidköping which is also beautiful. An ideal destination for boat excursions, fishing trips or swimming holidays. Don't miss Framnasbadet, where you find swimming pools and diving towers, or Filsbacksbadet, with a sandy beach, a kids' playground and a fun miniature golf course.
Try the popular Swedish foods such as Smörgåstårta which is a sandwich cake! Sounds strange but is a classic Swedish lunch! You should also try Kantarell (english spelling is - chanterelle) mushrooms which are known as the gold of the forests - you can find them in forests and pick them yourself if you’re up for it!
The lake is surrounded by forests. You can take a bike ride or walk through the forests and it really is amazing. Unfortunately mosquitos and ticks are rife - you should get a Tick-borne encephalitis vaccine before you.

If you’re looking for nightlife on the weekend, look no further than Stadshotellet in Lidköping. Stadshotellet is a hotel but there is a beautiful bar there and the hotel turns into a club at night on Friday and Saturday. There are 3 dance floors and a really cool outside space. Another great bar is Bakgårn which is on the corner of the main square in Lidköping. They do great cocktails there and also amazing food with lots of options for both veggie and meat-lovers. You should also try some of the amazing cakes and pastries which are the best! Rådhuskonditoriet do some amazing Swedish treats and great coffee.
It’s a good idea to carry swimwear all the time, as you often come across amazing other parts of the lake or beaches where you may want to take a dip.
Sweden is slowly turning into a cashless country and everyone seems to use their bank/Monzo cards rather than cash. A lot of shops now only accept card and no cash.
Bike’s are a really popular way of travelling in Sweden in general. If you’re out in Söne you do really need a car as its a 17 minute drive (according to google) so cycling would obviously take quite a long time….but would be good exercise and great if you want to see all the beautiful views along the way!
To get to Söne or Lidköping from the airport (which is in Gothenburg) we suggest renting a car at the airport. The car will also be very useful in getting around the area.
