Byron Bay is the place to stay. Whether you wake at 5am to watch the dolphins from the lighthouse, or surf the waves at sunset, there are so many excursions to keep you entertained in and around the bay. Maybe you’ll head to a nearby waterfall, maybe you just want to eat all the acai fruit bowls you can find, or maybe you’ll find your surfer bae in the bay? Who knows. Ready to find out?
Enjoy breathtaking coastal views along Cape Byron no matter the time of day. This 3.7km loop leads you along ancient burrawangs, kangaroo grasslands, picturesque beaches even before reaching the Cape Byron Lighthouse. From the lighthouse, you might even be able to see the dolphins if you head there by sunrise.
A 90% chance you’ll see dolphins! Get up close and personal with bottlenose dolphins as you paddle, and depending on the season, even sea turtles or humpback whales (June - August).
Whether you’re gnarly or not, you HAVE to try surfing in Byron Bay. Rent boards from any hostel or shop around the Bay. If you haven't a clue, try one of the many surf schools. Some offer 2-7 day camps with accommodation included. You're in the surf capital of Australia - give it a go!
With a vintage surfing vibe, Woody’s has live music, dancefloor space, table football and pool. Keep your eyes peeled for happy hour (8-10pm) and prize winning nights. Drink goon (bagged wine), tinnies or tap beer & make sure you’re there for the 2000’s hits, Hip-Hop Hooray or La Latin party. With free rides to Woody’s from 10-12pm, there’s no excuse to miss out!

In order to get to Byron Bay, you can jump on a Greyhound Coach. Leaving at least twice a day daily, you can get to this wicked little place from across the country. Tours can offer great alternatives for accessing the sites alone, but does not always give you the flexibility to make changes to your schedule.
Within Byron itself there are bikes you can rent for the day to mooch around the place. However, this area is easily accessible and walkable around the town centre.
If you want to venture further out, the best option is to rent a car with others to make the most of your experiences out there. If you fancy your own little road trip, why not rent a campervan? Especially if you are travelling with friends, (i.e. where you can split the cost), a campervan gives you flexibility to drive from place to place as and when you want! It’s important to bare in mind that (1) Australia is big, like, really big. Expect your drives from city to city to be at least 5 hours. (2) Driving might interfer with you wanting to drink (3) You have to pay for fuel aswell, so make sure you count it in the cost when you are budgeting.
