Our Guide to Accommodation
Accommodation in Japan can be extremely pricey. You really need someone who speaks Japanese if you want to find the best deals – the websites are really really complicated to navigate and lots of places don’t let foreigners stay there. There’s a lot of paperwork for these but don’t be discouraged – it’s worth it!
Accommodation in Tokyo
Useful Tips:
Japanese people live very frugally and don’t have too much space. Tokyo has around 15 million people in it too, so it’s an expensive place and you don’t get much for that. Ask a company or university to help you with accommodation. You ideally want them to find somewhere and just send you the bill. Not many Japanese people speak English so be patient with email correspondence.
What our students have to say:
"My room was about 14m^2… so you have to go outside a lot. It cost around £1000 per month. I lived in Kawasaki which is the industrial south of Tokyo."
